Although many have heard of the Calusa and the Tequesta Indians,
the Mayaimi tribe of Southern Florida was perhaps the most influential
of the pre-Seminole family.
According to the book: THE SEMINOLES OF FLORIDA by
Minnie Moore-Wilson (1896),
"The Seminoles are divided into four bands; They are the Miami Indians,
the Big Cypress band, the Talla-hassees and the Okeechobees."
