INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR:
Duane K. McCullough 9/00

by Duane McCullough

This eleventh interview was written by the author in response to possible questions regarding the book: SPIRIT OF ATLANTIS / The Treasure Adventure. Although there are three fictional reporters asking questions about the many views presented in the book, the questions asked are meant to inspire the public into discovering the truth and reality about Atlantis. The public is welcome to republish this "press conference" - however, any republication of this interview should include this web site address or HTML link to the www.spiritofatlantis.com web site.

Dateline: Sept/00 / Place: Key Largo, Florida

Duane: Before we start this interview, I would like to take a few moments to review the status of my SPIRIT OF ATLANTIS book project. First, a reminder that the full version of the 146 page book project and CD HTML program is still currently available by mail order. Just contact me at my email address or my mailing address at the bottom of the SOA demo page link for ordering information. Second, I would also like to remind visitors to my SOA website at www.spiritofatlantis.com that although some of my research views into the subject of Atlantis may be difficult to believe or understand at times, the views can be made understandable if time is spent verifying the data. Those who care to understand when and where the lost civilization of Atlantis existed in time will come to discover the plausible historical view that the lost continent of Atlantis is now the New World continent of America and that the lost capital seaport of Atlantis is now buried under tons of swamp mud in a remote area of Central America. Perhaps the most radical of all my historical views is not if Atlantis really existed, but when it existed. While other historians are still rehashing dated human events thousands of years ago, my research suggest a much shorter accountable timeline concept that places all known dated human events from before the Renaissance to only about five centuries. Although this radical historical view runs against the grain of conventional history, I believe my research findings are based on verifiable scientific discoveries which will, in time, rewrite the role of the Atlantean civilization within global human history... Now, your first question.

Reporter 2: After investing nearly two decades into your SPIRIT OF ATLANTIS book project, your quest in convincing the general public that the subject of Atlantis is based on verifiable facts and not fictional or imaginary views from the mind of Plato has been apparently unsuccessful so far. What do you believe will be the main event factor that will prove to the general public your research is valid?

Duane: The main event factor... Well, of course the archeological uncovering of the lost antediluvian seaport in Central America would convince the general public that Atlantis was real - however, that event may never happen in my lifetime for reasons I give in my online essays. Another main event factor could be if some major media publisher would review my work and offer to reprocess the historical and scientific data into a special media event program and new book release. Or perhaps my SPIRIT OF ATLANTIS website may get mentioned by some large media publication service which could lead to a major online discovery event on the Internet. I believe the subject of Atlantis will someday, perhaps soon with help from the media, command the attention of the public when the truth of its existence finally rises above the many years a unverifiable speculation created by historians and entertainers alike as to what, when and where Atlantis really was.

Reporter 3: Considering the radical nature of your new timeline understanding of Western History, the chances that some large media publishing service will republish your work is not likely. The five-thousand year plus timeline of conventional history is just too entrenched into every aspect of modern life. And to ask the general public to ignore or forget thousands of years of conventional history because you believe early record keeping scholars incorrectly compiled and published the annual event dates of ancient history some five centuries ago, is asking the impossible. Your new timeline concept conflicts with too many old history books. Do you really believe your timeline argument with recorded conventional history is a winnable argument in the field of public opinion - and if you do, why?

Duane: There was a time when I doubted my historical timeline conclusions, but then I realized that the argument to challenge recorded conventional history from before the Renaissance has merit because few people know or understand the art of history making. And the few that believed they knew how history was compiled and recorded over time were trained on historical theories repeated so many times in books they assumed they were factual views. I have managed to create a new timeline concept wherein the annual dates of ancient events are scientifically separated and recompiled - resulting in a radical and much smaller account of human history. Yes, I believe my timeline argument with recorded conventional history is a winnable argument because I have come to realize that the foundation of recorded conventional history was incorrectly compiled and published during the early printing era of the Renaissance by scholars who knew little about global human history - and that no other historian since then would or could challenge their historical conclusions until now.

Reporter 2: Notwithstanding your controversial new timeline concept of global human history, could you give us an overview of why you believe your theories about Atlantis should be taught in school?

Duane: Let me begin with the idea that all my views on the Atlantean subject are not all theories. Because schools are institutions wherein both teachers and students learn important lessons so they can improve themselves and their community, my new historical views about Atlantis can improve the public's understanding about a complex, yet important subject. Many new and serious anthropological, archeological and technological lessons about Atlantis are waiting to learned.

Reporter 2: Could you give us a quick review of some of these anthropological, archeological and technological lessons about Atlantis you would teach if you where a professor?

Duane: Well, let's see, Atlantis and anthropology... The evolutionary origins of human kind within the primate species may not have evolved directly out of Africa as many believe, but may have resulted in a New World primate that absorbed from the environment durable elements which substantially elevated the ability to remember lessons better than any other animal on earth. This unique memory ability resulted in a race of human beings that, over time, nautically colonized the shores of the Old World and blended with other primate humans along the way. During this global migration modern mankind grew into a trade network of seafaring communities linked by the maritime kingdom named Atlantis with its capital trade seaport in the center of the New World. After a great celestial event, wherein a rogue comet crashed into the Sun and caused global earthquakes and floods, the many generations of our Atlantean ancestors were divided into the New and Old World areas because the knowledge of oceanic seafaring was temporary lost. And some five centuries ago, when the New World was rediscovered by seafarers from the Old World who recorded their history from their perspective, the modern age of scientific discovery began after the Middle Ages.

Reporter 2: An interesting oversimplification statement of a complex set of historical views. Where is the archeological evidence to support these anthropological concepts?

Duane: The tangible archeological evidence lies in the understanding of the evolution of the Latin Alphabet. Early humans once communicated over long distances by way of numerically sending binary sound and smoke signals based on a twenty count system alphabet known as ogam. This now lost binary alphabet began in the New World and then evolved into a graphical symbol alphabet over time byway of Mediterranean seafarers of the Old World who, in turn, influence the European maritime community into using the Latin Alphabet. The directional path of cultural and technological evolution across Neolithic Europe can be based on archeological sites such as Stonehenge which many believe was built before the great pyramids of Egypt. Archeological evidence of this directional path suggest the great maritime kingdom of Atlantis evolved as it migrated eastward toward the eastern Mediterranean area wherein the Egyptian and Babylonian kingdoms became colonial powers over time.

Reporter 2: And what about the technological aspects of the lost Atlantean maritime kingdom - how would you give a quick summery on this subject "professor" Duane?

Duane: Ah yes, the technological aspects of the lost Atlantean maritime kingdom... Well, conventional history may give the beginning of the Iron Age to the warring Hittites of Asia Minor - however, the seafaring Phoenicians of the Mediterranean area also used iron in chains to anchor safely offshore during their long voyages. And the Phoenicians where the "inventors" of the Latin alphabet - which can trace the five-unit vowel rule of linear communication to the binary ogamic alphabet of the Atlantean Maritime Kingdom. According to Plato and other ancient scholars, there once existed a lost age wherein our ancestors used remarkable cutting tool devices to carve and split hard materials like stone. Mythology and Biblical history are ripe with stories about great flying machines and burning bushes or flaming pillars that talk and give commandments. Ancient stories about amazing swords from stones and cup-like dishes that give off a bright shinning light have been told for centuries because they are based on a misunderstood truth. A lost antediluvian technology is behind these stories which was used during the age of Atlantis. The primary tool design or cutting device based on this lost technology is the particle-beam lens instrument which was capable of not only alchemically scoring through stone with its plasmatic torch-light reaction process, but also had the wireless ability to transmit binary coded information over great distances because of the piezoelectric reaction within the plasmatic beam. Ancient flying machines with heroic pilots were also used during the lost age of Atlantis - such as wondrous kites and even steam-powered helicopter-like lifting platforms that were gyroscopically controlled and highly decorated with animal shapes to mesmerise the masses.

Reporter 2: Wow, that some lost technology... If all what you say was once real, how come nobody but you have come to realized this remarkable antediluvian technology from the age of Atlantis?

Duane: I don't really know - perhaps I just had the time or made the time and used my imagination with plausible scientific views to explain what I thought to be once a fantastic and forgotten age of lost technology. Other Atlantean historians have come close to what I have theorized, but every time they misunderstood the scientific reality of Atlantis, another layer of false speculation buried the truth which has made it very difficult for conventional historians to uncover the truth as to what Atlantis really was in time.

Reporter 3: Speaking of the use of one's imagination, what do you say to people who believe that Plato imagined the whole story of Atlantis as a fictional tale to attack the Hellenic culture who, at the time it was recorded, ordered the death of Socrates which was Plato's good friend?

Duane: The idea that Plato imagined or invented the story of Atlantis may seem plausible to some - especially when one compares the utopian concepts within one of Plato's other major works entitled "The Republic" - however, this narrow view ignores the incredible detail views in the greater story. The sea-story of Atlantis comes to us byway of how and when it was first documented. Plato probably used his students at his academy to copy his works like publishers use printing or copy machines today. One of his students, and perhaps the first disbeliever in the subject of Atlantis, was Aristotle who was once quoted as saying "he who invented Atlantis, also destroyed it". Now Aristotle was known to dislike his teacher for reasons unknown and may have, in turn, used portions of Plato’s Atlantean story as Hellenic propaganda material in teaching one of his students named "Alexander the Great" - who later became the military leader of the Hellenic Empire in the eastern Mediterranean area. In the Timaeus and Critias dialogues, Plato describes, in great detail, the makeup of the Atlantean maritime kingdom, but little is said about the war between the Atlanteans and the rebel Hellenic regime of Athens. Other than a quick statement about why the Atlanteans lost a major battle with the Hellenic regime just before global earthquakes and floods destroyed both partisans, the story of Atlantis is a collection of historical views about a lost continent and capital seaport from which a global maritime kingdom was destroyed long ago. Much more than what could be imagined from one mind, Atlantis was once a real place and a real time. The point is that the ability to imagine and publish factual historical perspectives should not be confused with the power to misunderstand and publish fictional historical perspectives. Sometimes one has to believe to see the truth as opposed to "seeing is believing". Using the ability to imagine or speculate something truthful is sometimes a good way in uncovering the truth.

Reporter 1: Using your imagination, where and what do you believe could happen to yourself and your research project, say, four or five years from now?

Duane: Well, considering the current trend of non-recognition, maybe my SPIRIT OF ATLANTIS project and I will remain obscure - still buried under many layers of false speculation and misdirected theories about Atlantis. However, if my historical views about Atlantis gets the recognition from the mainstream media and several important educational institutions in a way I feel they should, then perhaps the SOA project and I could be involved with making a special documentary program within the broadcast industry - including the Internet medium. There exist many programs already that give general overviews about the Atlantean subject, but my version would not just review known theories and then leave the subject open ended like others have. I would like to speculate on how to apply the new knowledge about Atlantis and how it should be taught in school. Four of five years from now I may still be teaching environmental and historical views to visitors here in Key Largo, or perhaps be involve with a studio production of my research at a nearby facility. Maybe I will be trying to escape from the jungle natives of Central America after discovering a lost temple artifact and just make it to my seaplane in time.
