It was a full moon with a mellow breeze and we were sailing in a remote shallow part of Largo Sound where nobody hardly visits at night - and I was instantly curious as to what could be causing such a bright underwater green light. At first I thought it was a sea turtle that was stirring up some phosphorus in the seawater - but it became much brighter than any natural glow and then I thought it must be a diver with a flashlight in the water because it seemed electric.
As we got closer, it changed itself into a bright red glow - and then my mind really became excited trying to figure out the mystery of this underwater object. Slowly sailing over it, everybody aboard was also excited and I concluded that it can't be a diver with a flashlight because the water depth is only about three feet and no bubbles or waves could be seen.
Just about the time I was running out of ideas of what it could be, I noticed my clamp-on flashlight at the front of the boat on the bow rail - which is divided into the red and green lens as a navigational light, was missing. Apparently Chelsea, one of my nieces aboard, was playing with it earlier and knocked it overboard and didn't tell anyone out of fear of punishment.
So with a big laugh, I jumped in to recover the light off the bottom and we continued to sail the waters of Largo Sound that evening feeling better about the natural wonders of the area.
